“Clockwork Fate” Poetry Collaboration with Brian Kovich

Been a bit uninspired lately, so yesterday i reached out to a friend for a collaboration. Lightning struck, thanks mainly to Brian, and i’m very happy with how this turned out. Hope you enjoy.

Clockwork Fate

Co-Written with Brian Kovich

In me all the poets who came before,
To give birth to all the poets yet to be.
Every poem is a cocktail or a certain person.
Every poem I create, creates a greater poetry in me.

Words flow and scatter, rolling off fingers in waves,
I am a conduit to everything i’ve ever feared.
Every syllable casting shadows that roam for miles,
Every elipses drowning out the inevitable end.

The world reduced to fractions of factions.
A pleasant afternoon ruined inexplicably,
Every drone strike, union strike. Strike out.
Every thought, word, and deed. Improbably.

Impossibly simple, answers seem in hindsight,
Reduce the war to the sum of its parts and divide.
Every independent thought is dangerous to the masses,
Every first kiss deadly to a heartless revolution.

Seek out a greater alternative view.
The world is less than what we make of it.
Every door bell rung, escapes our loneliness.
Every word; Written or spoken, plays a partly bit.

Message in a bottle, letters never sent,
Yellowing postcards fade and curl.
Every moment of hesitation catches in our throats,
Every reflection echoing the regrets we inhabit.

There are more thoughts than there are words.
I am a… (finite futures fascinate.)
Every lonesome tandem within this world,
Every independent unwound clockwork fate.

Trade the passing minutes, useless, priceless,
Forever slipping through, under, into dreams,
Every last breath measured by pregnant pauses,
Every stanza shouting unspoken secrets to deaf ears.

After we pick up the pieces I found our dearest shame,
We suddenly will realize life/love is but a game .

Uninspired

So what do you do when you’ve been uninspired for months? When you have some ideas but are unable to crystalize them? When the things racing back and forth throughout your mind never make it to paper?

Recently I committed the ultimate technology stupid move. I lost 13 poems because I’d written them on my computer, hadn’t backed them up or hand copied them into a journal and assumed they were safe because they were on my external hard drive. They weren’t. The effect was actually kind of devastating. Like most writers I loathe much of my work, but I was happy with these 13 finished prices and now I’ve lost them forever and I think that’s added to my lack of inspiration.

Tack on a job that I actually like, but doesn’t stimulate creativity in any way whatsoever.

And here I am.

So where do I go?

Where do you go, how do you get the spark back?

“Storybook Endings” Now Available

I am very happy to announce that my newest book, “Storybook Endings” is now available!!!! For now you can buy it as a paperback or an e-book at http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/63channelspress

For those of you that use a kindle, nook or I-Pad, the book will be available on all those formats in 6-8 weeks. I’ll send out another announcement as each format become available.

if, for some bizarre reason you want an autographed copy, please shoot me a message, don’t buy from my store. I will send it to you directly with some extra goodies. This does cost a few bucks more than the book alone.

Here’s a first review of the book:

About the book:

“Captivating, complex, impressive and resolute, Storybook Endings “bend[s] the bright lights of tomorrow” into one of the most interesting gatherings of material published this past decade. Endings explores new ideas with characteristic brilliance and attention to detail. While his writing varies in forms from prose to free verse poetry and everything in between, Feulner is a truth-teller: “look[ing] inside the outside,” he makes his way through the varied forms, and in doing so, seeks to move through the self, the story, and the truth in ways that are never anything short of instantly fascinating  and immediately compelling. There aren’t many writers whose language so precisely resonates with the pervasive concerns of the contemporary human condition. Feulner is a powerful writer whose daring and ambitious “storybook endings” aims at the heart of extant America and hits their bull’s eye every time.”

– Michelle Greenblatt, Poetry Editor of Unlikely Stories, author of brain:storm and the ASHES AND SEEDS (forthcoming)

Web Surfing that won’t waste your time…..

computer

if you’re reading my blog, you probably spend quite a bit f time on the web. Seriously, how else would you have found this thing? You can surf, you can Stumble, you can Pintrest, you can Wiki or you can just check out my top 5 favorite websites that are a great way to spend your time on the net.

1. Short Of The Week ( http://www.shortoftheweek.com/ )

From the site: “We believe short films are at the center of innovative storytelling. New ideas, new techniques and new directors first make their mark in the filmmaker’s playground that is short form cinema.”

The short and simple of it? short films anywhere from 2 minutes to 30 minutes. Comedy, romance, drama, action, horror, animation, sci-fi. Just spend a few minutes browsing and you’ll find yourself constantly revisiting the site for new videos. In the last 4 months i’ve found some of the most charming, inspiring movies i’ve seen in a long time. this is where filmmaking is art & entertainment. Skip the multiplex, go here….

2. TED. ( http://www.ted.com/ )

I’m sure a lot of you know this one. TED is a site filled with lectures. Sounds boring right? yeah, it can be. but doing a bit of digging, searching for talks that you’re interested in will yeild some amazing results. Give it a shot, but beware, this is a site where you may learn something.

3. Babel Music ( http://www.baeblemusic.com/ )

Like your music of the Indie persuasion? then this is your site. Catch up on music news, watch concerts, interviews and exclusive studio sessions by some of today’s biggest and fastest rising indie bands

4.Geeks Are Sexy ( http://www.geeksaresexy.net/ )

While i WOULD categorize myself as a geek, i wouldn’t ever call myself sexy. however to do appreciate the sentiment and this site. filled with the latest in geek news, gadgets and videos, this site is  a nerds paradise. i’ll meet you there.

5. Oneword ( http://oneword.com/ )

This one is simple. If you are a writer this site is for you. Every day you go to the page and hit “Go” it takes you to another page where there is a word. Below that word is a blank box. From the moment you get to the page you have exactly 60 seconds to write about the word on the page. their tag is “Don’t think. Just write.”

So there thy are. 5 websites that make me feel a little less guilty about the time i spend on the web. And i think every now and then something thats fun AND doesn’t cost you IQ points (yeah i’m talking to you Facebook) is a good thing.

Enjoy!
