Not your Princess…

I understand that we live in a society that’s obsessed with all things celebrity, even if they aren’t talented or actually celebrities, The Kardashians are the dictionary perfect example of that. However i seem to have a lot of trouble grasping why anyone gives a crap about Kate Middleton & Prince William. First off they are not your prince and princess. They don’t represent america  in any way whatsoever and Let’s be honest, Kate’s biggest accomplishments are graduating from college and nabbing herself a balding prince. She’s not a humanitarian, she isn’t trying to save the world and no matter what the gossip columns say, she’s not the new fashion icon. Her taste in clothing seems to be exactly on par with your average twenty something. People seem so desperate to find the “New Princess Diana” that they are completely ignoring the fact that there is nothing extraordinary or special about this wedding or these people. I know little girls grow up on princess stories, Disney has made a mint jamming it down our throats, but where is the line? Lifetime has already made a movie about the relationship and the wedding and the stars of that movie have been mobbed by paparazzi because of it. So now we’re obsessed by the people acting in the mostly fictional account of two people that don’t deserve our obsession?

I realize that i may sound a bit hypocritical, i tend to write a lot of my posts about celebrities and the stupid things they do. But my intention is to make fun of these people that we put on pedestals, not exalt them.  And to exalt these two people, british royalty that have little power or influence over their own country, never mind ours, is just about as close to insanity as celebrity worship gets. And if we’re going to worship and obsess over them, watch their every move and wear the styles they wear, lets pause for a moment and remember what happened to the last royalty we did this to.

  1. With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright violation? My site has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my permission. Do you know any methods to help prevent content from being ripped off? I’d truly appreciate it.

    1. i always link to articles i mention and i only use images that are already used publicly. Celebrity photos and such don’t really fall under a copyright issue as long as you’re not using them for profit. if i was selling a subscription it would be an entirely different story.

on a semi-related note, i’ve actually had three of my blog posts “stolen” by entertainment websites. In all three cases i allowed them to keep up the articles up as long i was credited as author and there was a link back to my blog. I’m not looking to get paid, just credited.
